long cranking problem

long cranking problem
01 Jimmy, has the factory alternator, battery & I'm assuming the starter is factory. Remote starting the car and cranking it manually took 6-10 seconds to get it to turn over. I replaced the battery since it was on its last leg, and I tested the alternator and it is indeed charging fine. When I drove to work this morning, I came to a stop at a light and the rpms dropped to 0 and it stalled out. Put it in park and it fired back up without hesitation. My car guy said that the fuel injectors could be stuck open when the fuel pump turns on and spraying too much, causing the car to get flooded. This would also explain why it drops at an idle because of excessive fuel.
With the battery and alternator ruled out, do you agree I should look to the starter next, or is there something more prone to going bad on these SUVs like the fuel injection spider? [/align]

RE: long cranking problem
As long as the starter is turning it over, you have no problem with the starter. Long cranking means you have a good, strong starter but either spark or fuel aren't there.
Look elsewhere. Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me.
Fuel injectors should be pretty easy for a shop to test. If they're stuck open, the hydrocarbon level will be through the stratosphere.

RE: long cranking problem
Thanks for the input! I just put a bottle of lucas fuel treatment in, hopefully that will clear out any debris that may be in the injectors, if any. It's got 119k miles, I'd imagine they're not the cleanest [:'(]

RE: long cranking problem
It wouldn't hurt to test the fuel pressure and see if it's up over 55psi.
