Ok so im notcing alot espically in these summer temperature that my truck will make a loud roaring noise from the engine. Example like when i start it and hit the gas it will be a loud roaring for a like 15 seconds then it will stop and will be fine. Today i drove about 30 miles and about the time i was getting home i was stopping at lights and everytime i stopped at one for a couple minutes and then starting going again there would be a loud roaring noise and then it would go back to normal. Is this a problem? If so how do i fix it? The noise is so obnoxious. I did do a search and came back with it might be a fan clutch? Ill do the test by trying to move the fan when the truck is cold tommorow morning.... Thanks so much

 

That's exactly what it is, your fan clutch. Mine does the same thing. Roars first thing in the morning some mornings (silicone inside of it settled all to the bottom overnight) and when I'm hauling the karts on a hot day with the A/C cranked (doing it's job).

 

Yes, that is normal. The owners manual for my 1998 even has a section called "engine fan noise" that describes what you posted as perfectly normal.

It's hot man It's hot... got up to 107 here today. If your fan wasn't making all that noise then your engine would be overheating. It is normal.

 

You find that annoying? I like it! My wife laughs at me when I do the Tim Allen oh-oh-oh grunt when it does that!

No but seriously, my pops has a Blazer, and it does the same thing. Mechanic says nothing wrong with it, just a normal noise.

 

Yeah, mine does the same thing, pretty normal, all of mine do it some, some worse than others thou.

The Manuel says its normal but to keep your trans fluid cool. i thought i might put an auxiliary radiator normally used for keeping trans cool for towing hoping to reduce the number of times and length of time the fan clutch is activated
