I have a 2001 chevy blazer. The ses light comes on and off. Had it tested and was told it was a maf sensor. Was told to clean it and see if that takes care of the problem. Is it something we can do our selves or do we need to take it in?
thanks in advance for any help

Definitely something you can do yourself. Run a search on it and if you have any questions after that, post here. We'll try to answer them to the best of our abilities. Heck... I think I even had a post awhile back that had pictures of the sensor disassembled and everything! LOL

Yup like sawrtlkk said you can do it yourself. I had to clean the one on my 2000 blazer. Luckily i didn't have to buy a new one cause they cost a good penny!

I can't find a 'how to' thread...can anyone post a link or give a step by step method of cleaning this.
I am going to give this a go soon so help would be good.
My RHD blazer in England keeps stalling when on idle (and feathering at junctions) It is a 1999 and probably has never had the MAF cleaned.
Thanks in advance

Don't think there ever was a true How-To on it, but I have detailed it in several posts. Here is one of them showing a picture of the MAF disassembled with a link to the thread where I described how to clean it. After reading through what I wrote some time ago in that thread, I'll add some more information for you. I recommend that you purchase MAF specific cleaner and attempt to clean the MAF sensor with just the stream of cleaner out of the can. If you find that the elements are not coming clean, then you may have to use the q-tip approach, but GREAT CARE must be taken as to not damage the sensor. If you break a wire, the sensor is gone. The elements should become a silver/white color when clean, but could be a bit on the tan side and still work properly. You want to get them as clean as possible without damaging the sensor.

a_tack - I hope this works too, I don't fancy getting a new one plus shipping to UK.
Thanksswartlkk, Ihave my electrical cleaner and am off to try it today. I WILL be careful!!!
While I am at it I will look at cleaning my ERG. I need help here -
What parts do I need to inspect / clean / remove etc
Where is it (bear in mind my UK car is all back to front!!)
Is there a thread / pics etc....I have searched but to no avail.

I don't ever remember a thread on how to clean the MAF sensor. It is basically an unbolt, clean, and bolt back up with a new gasket. It is located between the alternator and the A/C compressor. It is about the size of a soda can with an electrical connection on top and is held to the lower intake manifold by two 10mm bolts. There is an updated gasket that has a screen inside it to keep larger carbon deposits from making their way into the valve.

Kyle meant EGR in his last post, not MAF. (typo)
