Maybe big problem ?
Ok going to pick your brains
It's a 1999 Blazer ZR2
Took my truck in Saturday to get it checked ( engine light on ) which just turned out to be faulty gas cap ....
But when we rev'd up the motor, the bottom more than the top rad hose gets smaller in diameter , and we noticed there is a leak in the top of the radiator it self
My mechanic wants to replace the rad and the water pump, along with both hoses to see why it's doing this. So I have to pay for that before I can find out why.... He says might be head gasket, cracked head or even cracked block, so either way I'm looking a big bill....
wondering if anyone on the website has either come across this or has an opinion on what it cold be

Bad radiator cap, or plugged tube to the overflow reservoir.
As the engine cools back down, it is suppose to draw coolant back into the cooling system from the overflow tank.
It it can't suck back the coolant, the slight vacuum in the cooling system will do that. EVEN with new hoses.
Replace you radiator cap, and make sure the small tube from the filler neck on the radiator is not plugged or pinched

why dont you have your mechanic do a radiator pressure test before you have him start tearing into the engine to find possible leaks? im not trying to dog your mechanic but it sounds like he is trying to get money out of you for work that may not be needed
and +1 on the coil spring on hose if its not there def replace the hose its supposed to stop the hose from being sucked it

can we do a pressure test even though there is a small leak on top by the radiator cap itself . And my mechanic is a very good friend and will either get work from this truck or my show car, so I don't think he's after my money
