Default MFI Conversion

I installed the MFI conversion today. I purchased a Delphi kit on Amazon for just under $180 plus the Intake Gasket set. This was the first time that I removed an upper plenum and it was pretty straight forward. I have set of factory service manuals and I watched a you tube video. The video mentioned using a 5/8" crows foot to break the fuel line nuts loose. I purchased a set of flare nut crowfeet from harbor freight. The crowsfoot worked great. Once I had the upper plenum off I used carb cleaner to clean the plenum before I removed the spider assy. I also removed the throttle body to clean the soot out of the throttle body. Installation was simple once I figured out how the instructions were saying the lines needed to be routed. I double and triple checked the injector installation making sure they were installed in the right cylinder and in as far as they would go. There is no locking device and it is a tight fit. I was worried that they were not seating properly. I did unbolt the upper water inlet from the intake manifold and moved the whole pipe aside to provide more room to work. The biggest problem I had was getting the flare nut fittings for the fuel line to start threading correctly. I spent close to an hour trying to get the fittings started. Once the fuel lines were secured the rest of the installation went very quickly. I was really nervous when I went to start but it fired right up. No codes and I drove it to get gas and it ran great. A stuby 5/8 wrench would have been nice but I do not have one. Before the changeover my car was very difficult to start. I would crank it at least 10 times before it would fire.. This is on a GMC 2000 Jimmy Diamond Edition.

I bought a stubby 5/8" wrench for this specific job. It works wonders. And to connect the fuel lines nest time, loosen the bolt to the hold down clamp at the rear of the block. It will give you a little play in the lines to get them to line up easier.

I ended up loosening the hold down bolt and the two nuts at the fuel injector housing and it did help. I was able to get a regular wrench on the flare nuts but it was kind of a pain in A$$.

Took me a little while to get the fuel lines started too, also loosened clamp at back.

Easiest way i found to get the threads started was to loosen the clamp, unbolt the lines from the injector body and pull them up out of the seals... start the threads, then reassemble.

I also cut one of my cheap 5/8 wrenches in half to make it easy.
