Multifunction switch

Multifunction switch
I mentioned in an earlier post that I have brake light and directional problems that I think are being caused by a bad multifunction switch. So now I'm looking for a new one. Looks like they go for somewhere around $225 or so. This weekend I might go to a salvage yard and see if I can get one out of a wreck.
In the event this is a grounding problem, can anyone tell me where in the vehicle I should look? Is there a common grounding point for this part of the circuit? Brake lights and directionals are dead. All fuses and bulbs are good. I was going to replace the flashers behind the glove box just for the heck of it and see what happens. Anyone have any advice or opinions?

RE: Multifunction switch
There is a major ground on the radiator support under/near the battery box. There are also smaller grounds from the engine to firewall and near most headlight/taillight locations..also check the computer harness for grounds...

RE: Multifunction switch
What year blazer do you have? I bought a multi switch off ebay for around $100. When I compared to the old it was exactly the same short of the GM logos. Its not a bad job other than taking everything apart to get it off. I broke mine via the hazard switch that was brittle while installing a stereo....trying to save a couple of bucks doing it my self....turns out I didn't save anything.

RE: Multifunction switch
Mine's a 97. I found a multifunction switch on a 96 at a salvage yard but they would only sell the entire steering column and wouldn't let me take just the switch. I bought one at Auto Zone for $184. The dealer wanted $399 for the switch. I'm told you can't get just the hazard switch. SO what I'm going to do is try to see if the problem is a bad ground. Then see if it's the flashers. Then, if all else fails, put in the new multifunction switch. Hopefully that'll work. The car is in Puerto Rico and I'm not going there for another two weeks, but after I do, I'll post the results.

RE: Multifunction switch
In another thread created by you just a few days ago, I gave you the PN for the hazard switch... If your dealership continues to give you a hard time over it, either find a new dealership or get one from GMPartsDirect.com or check out some other places such as RockAuto.com or Parts4Chevys.com. Be aware that GMPD.com has extravagant shipping charges and rediculously long delays between order entry and delivery.
BTW, for sake of repetition, the PN is 15174447.
