I just bought a new 2001 Blazer Zr2 with about 190k miles on it. It runs great considering the miles, but i was wondering what kinds of things begin to go wrong at higher miles. Also, what might be a good idea to upgrade or replace. Include prices and places to buy if you know.

Thanks all!!!!

Also, a few problems im having are....

Need to replace idler arm
Driver power window not working...possibly the shielding?
ABS does not work
Soft Brakes

Thanks everyone!

Auto tranny? Get ATF and filter change.
Manual? Change the gear oil.

If the front hub bearings haven't been replaced, I doubt they're in good shape. If there's any kind of roar or hum from the front end as you turn one way or the other, replace them both. You said ABS does not work, so it could be due to this. Bad speed sensors in the hub assembly will make the ABS system goof up.

Unless you have documented proof that fluids and oils were serviced regularly, go ahead and replace all those - engine oil, coolant, rear diff, brake fluid, etc. Check all the suspension joints and give them a shot of grease if they need it. Also check spark plugs, and replace if excessively worn or dirty.

Especially take a look at the brake fluid, lines, and pads. Improper brake system maintenance is likely the cause of your soft brakes, though my 01 does have relatively "spongy" brakes compared to some vehicles. You'll have to compare to a known good vehicle to see if yours are excessively soft.

buying a used vehicle is always an adventure because you have no idea how the previous owner(s) treated it. I always give it a good close once over and replace anything that I suspect has not been properly serviced. an extra 20-30 dollars worth of replacement lubricants or fluids can go a long way toward extending a component's life if it's been abused prior.
