It could be one of a couple of things, could be that the thermostat is going bad, you could have a hose that is clogged or getting clogged. You could try flushing the system to see if that helps.

I agree, change the thermostat, do a really good cooling system flush and replace the antifreeze.

every car that i have ever driven or rode in has taken 10-20 minutes to get "WARM" in the morning when its been cold (20-40F) the night before. when i was growing up, my parents would bring blankets in the car when we rode to school in the morning.

this includes 3 fords, 5 chevy's, 2 vw

now, my fiancee's 95 honda accord - you can turn it on (in this 32F weather) and turn the heat to HIGH and wait 5-9 minutes (w/ the car idling) and it will almost burn your skin off its so hot.

drove to work this morning
outside temp was about 5C

got in the car, turned the heat on vent, full heat, high (4)
never got over 50mph, no fast starts, to fast breaking, 4 red lights, 10 turns.
got to work 9-12 minutes later
the heat was "warm" to the touch but not hot.
it didnt get "warm" till about the last minute or two (which was the only part of the trip where i was idling for more than 30sec in stopped traffic.
the engine temp showed about half way between 100 and 210 (210 is the top of the dial i think) when i turned off the car.

I have done chemical flushes ( takes about 3 hours),and then changed the thermostats on a few S10 blazers in the past. When I was done, the hot airfrom the ducts was so hot that I couldn't keep my hand if front of the air vents.

Run the engine for about 30 minutes and allow it to get up to operating temperature. Even with it being cold out the temp should be up around 190-210 F. If it is getting to that temp and you still are not getting good heat a flush is in order. If it is not getting up to temp a thermostat is in order. From what you've described, it sounds like everything is working fine to me. You are getting to work at about the time the engine is up to temp.

Clogged heater core?, once at operating temp feel the return hose and see if it's super hot or just as warm as the temp in the engine bay. Both should be hot if the coolant is flowing through. My return line is no hot and I have NO heat whatsoever, I'm gonna try to flush it out by disconnecting both lines and running the hose through it, I dont have $ for a new one right now.

I had the same problem lastwinter, I flushed the heater line and now it is so hot I can't keep my hand there. When I flushed itI saw some crap coming out of there for about 2-3 seconds after the water was clear. doesn't take much to clog the lines.
