Default Is my tranny ok?

I have a 2005 4x4 that I picked up with 12,000 miles on it. Maybe I got used to Hum Vs as the Army had me overseas for 3 years straight but shouldn't it roll a little when in drive or reverse? When I put my Blazer in drive it just sits there and usually there is a pause when switching from forward to reverse. I am used to automatics rolling a little like the old Ram commercials where the truck was pulling a few other trucks while at idle. My last truck was a manual Tacoma and my other car is a SRT-4 so I need a frame of reference here. I feel like something is wrong.

hmm... Well, my bravada rolls when in drive, as well as my Bonneville... It all depends on how much drag the torque converter is putting to the trans. When you give it gas, it moves right... How much (what rpm) does it seem like it wants to move? Is it a 2005 4x4 S10 Blazer or a Trailblazer?

It is a S10 Blazer. It seems to vary how much gas it takes to roll. I will try to get it on a flat surface and try to nail it down to just how much gas it takes to roll. I had a couple Trailblazer rental cars and they always rolled with no gas.

Another wierd thing it does is whine under acceleration like a supercharged vehicle or a car with low power steering fluid however it is neither of those and it doesn't make any more noise when turning/stressing the pump.

This may sound like a dumb question, but have you checked the transmission fluid level? If the tranny fluid is low, you may not have enough fluid to properly run the transmission without added power. The transmission fluid should be checked with the vehicle on flat, level ground, in park, with the engine running. Ideally, it should be filled to barely below the line (DO NOT OVERFILL!!!), then warmed up to full operating temperature (drive it for about 10-20 miles), then rechecked and topped off to about mid-way in the 'safe' region.

Yes it's full lol! That's the first thing I thought too and even paid Mr Goodwrench to service it just in case. They claimed not to notice anything but that is about what I expected.

Ok, not to offend, but sometimes the simplest things get overlooked.

Does it only do this only after it has set for awhile or does it do it pretty much anytime you go into drive/reverse from any other gear (cold or hot)?

You know, it may be after it has sat or is cold because today I tried to get it to act up and it was fine. Because we have been having this wierd December thunderstorm I haven't gone out there since work to mess with it. I will see if it does it in the morning and let you know.

My old '97 Dodge Ram 4x4 had a problem where if it would sit for a day or so without being run, it would take some time for it to actually move in any gear. What the diagnosis turned up was a check valve that keeps the fluid in the torque converter was stuck open and allowing the torque converter to drain. Basically, I had to wait for the pump to fill the TC everytime it sat for any extended length of time. A bottle of Lucas Trans Fix and a month later, the truck was running like a champ without another appearance of the problem even with it sitting for acouple weeks.

Now I don't generally recommend the use of addatives because many of them are just snake oil, but in this one time, Lucas Trans Fix actually fixed the problem I was having without any other repairs, just a bottle added to the tranny.

Good luck.

Well I almost picked up a bottle of that Lucas stuff tonight at Pep Boys and then I thought...It's still under warranty so to hell with that. It is just so hard to replicate and I want to make sure it's a problem before I go in raising hell. Here's what I've noticed lately. On a slight incline it will roll downhill opposite of whichever gear it is in. Now most automatics need a pretty steep hill to roll backwards don't they? It seems any hill at all will make this Blazer roll.

Yeah, something definitely doesn't sound right with that...
