Is it my transmission or what?
Before I go to Canadian Tire, Mr. Transmission or worse yet, the dealership, I thought I would take a shot here to see if I can get somewhat of an idea of what is wrong with my baby.
1. For the past few months my truck has been "hesitating" when I press the gas. From first to second gear, it has a short hesitation before it kicks into the next gear. Nothing happens and the truck runs fine but I wonder if it has something to do with the "pull" of the transmission. I went to Mr. Transmission where the owner drove the vehicle and felt it might be one of two problems but a diagnostic test is required... needless to say, the owner was upset that nothing was wrong according to the machine (cuz he promised me a free diagnostic test thinking he knew what the problem could be and it didn't show up). Problem was though.. the hesitation .. still there. But nothing was wrong... so ... i left it.
2. It has been snowing here for the last few days in Vancouver, BC, Canada. It rarely ever snows here so I was glad to have an opportunity to use my 4x4 in the snow. It switched to 4lo no problem and 2wd no problem for maybe a few times, then after, it wouldn't go back to 2wd in my parkade. It wouldn't change until I finally reversed. I have been worried about this happening again, but for the last few days, it has been up and down, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I was told it could be a need for a change in a transfer case? Can someone tell me what this is and why I would need to change it? Could this be related to my hesitation or a transmission problem?
3. Today, I drive the truck and when I slow down to a stop light. Engine turns off. I start, press the pedal, when I slow down again, it stops. Right now, it is parked in my parkade and I don't know what to do.... help...[>:]

My first question would have to be what are you driving? Knowing the year would be a good start.
I don't trust Canadian tire, I find that most of their mechanics lack experience and they make their money on commission!
I'd recommend Mr Transmission over Canadian tire any day.
As far as the transfer case goes, they probably suggested a fluid change. That's never a bad thing...maintenance.
Have you had the truck scanned for codes? Sometimes spending $100 at the dealer can wind up saving thousands of $$$ at some place that doesn't have (or don't know how to use) the diagnostic equiptment.

My apologies. 88s10Blazer is correct. I am the proud owner of a 1998 4wd 2door Chevy Blazer. Like you, I am reluctant to go to Canadian Tire, but with it shutting off on me, it's the closest auto shop for me to attempt to drive to. When I went to Mr. Transmission, what they told me was that it could either be my accumulator spring broken or an 1870 code (don't know exactly what that is), but both didn't come up as an issue. What I need to know as well is, would it be smart to try to drive it or should I get it towed? Thank you to those who responded so quickly. I want to get my baby back on the road with little hassle.
