Default Need help with my 98 blazer

Hi i am having problems with my blazer not wanted to start after it has been sitting for abit. The only way i can get it to start is by jumping it. I have changed the sparkplugs/wires, fuel filter and check the battery and stater and they are good. Once it is started it runs fine. when i do try to crank it up it turns off and sounds like it wants to start but i get the feeling like its not getting enough power

It is possible that the starter motor has become weak.

Well the person at auto zone said it was good. So do you think that it could still be bad?

also i was able to get it started but when i try it spits and pops. i have to hold the gas pedel down to get it going, if i didnt then it would just not start or try to.

I waited 2 more hours and it did the same just turned over

Another question, if my fuel pump is bad would it let me jump the truck and drive it around? I thought that if the pump is bad that you would not be able to do anything with it. I dont hear it come on when i turn the key so i am guessing that its something with the pump. Maybe the Relay switch?

Wow!...the "search" function worked for me! I am having the SAME exact problem with my 00'. I hate this truck and I am just trying to get it fixed up to sell it (it is actually my girlfriends). I actually burned out the original starter trying to get it started the first time this happened.

Anyways, my 2 cents is that if it was the fuel pump, you probably wouldn't get it started at all. Also, I might help you in the fact that just a week ago I put in a brand new AC delco fuel pump in my blazer because I was having the "erratic" gas gauge problem and figured that wouldn't be a good selling point with it bouncing all over. So I replaced it and I went out to start the truck after it sat for about 4-5 days (I drove it around for a week with no problems) and it won't start. I also installed new AC delco spark plugs when I did this. So I am stumped also, but I figured it might help knowing that the fuel pump didn't help me at all. Also, as mentioned I have new spark plug wires, new rotor & dist. cap, new fuel pump, new starter and new battery.

What about the coil? Please let me know what you find out if you find a cure!! Thanks

JT

Ok....after searching some more, I may have found my problem. As I was searching for not starting problems, I noticed a lot of "ignition switch" issues posted. I also noticed them talking about the security light. Mine is constantly blinking which is where I found this from Wolfpack:

"When an ignition switch fails and triggers the passlock system (the blinking security light)..the way the passlock system disables the vehicle is by cutting off the fuel supply. By pouring gas into the throttle body you're overriding the cut-off. What your test shows is that your engine is fine...and that you have a failed ignition switch."

Sounds like that may be my problem.

EDIT: Nevermind, I am an idiot. Once the you close the door, the light stops blinking <shaking head>. So back to the original problem.

Did you check the alternator? Ive ran into this problem once with my Prelude. The alt was putting out just enough voltage to run my car. Once shut off, it didnt want to start. The battery simple didnt have enough juice to start. Once I put a new alternator in, no more issues.

Well the problem is i dont want to keep replacing items that are working fine. My gf failed to tell me that the fuel pump pressue was low. This could be do to the fuel pump or the the fuel pump thing on the engine<cant remember the name of it> it also could be the coil etc. So i am going to buy a tool to help me figure out where the problem is before i buy anything else. I am going to get the pump replaced once i find someone to do it. Mech shops charge to much for it
