Default Need help replacing ignition cylinder

i have a 97 blazer that has problems with the ignition cylinder. the key wouldn't come out and when it finally did, i bought a replacement ignition cylinder but now when you insert the key it won't turn at all from the locked position. i was reading somewhere that the cylinder needs to be able to turn to the run position to insert a pin into the little hole on top of the cylinder in order to remove it, but since it won't move at all, have no way to do that.

anyone know what to do here?

Call a lock smith? It will not come out of there until it turns unless you get more extreme...

Have you tried giggling the key and/or steering wheel to see if it isn't just bound up? How about any lubricant into the cylinder?

You can also have another key cut and maybe the fresh edges will allow the movement of the cylinder.
