Default New A/C compressor question

Hello all

The bearing in my compressor is shot so I figured I'd replace the whole compressor anyways. The question I have is this....After I get the system discharged, can I just install the compressor without getting the lines vacuumed and the system charged? I live up north so winter is coming and there is no need for the a/c right now. Also, the compressor came dry so there is no oil in it. Basically, all I need it for is the pulley right now.

Thanks in advance!

BTW, the compressor is an HT6 for my 1997 LS 4x4.
What type of PAG oil is needed and how much too?

I think you can but I would not plug in the power as it will want to cycle on and off when you have the defrost on.

Mine needed a recharge but we do not use it so I just unpluged it and use it as a pulley now.

The place you have the system charged will have the oil and the information on how much to use.

Don't replace it with another HT6 as they are prone to fail. Get a sanden compressor.

If moisture enters the normally closed system, and remains over the cold months, internal parts are prone to corrode. IMHO, you should also pull a vacuum to remove the condensates after installing the new compressor....
