Unhappy No dash and no start!

Hello, I have a 1997 Blazer with the 4.3L. I cannot get my truck to start, it tries to but it just turns over and over and over. I must also mention that one other thing does not work now that I have looked over the Blazer: the dash completely does not work at all, the rear defroster does not work as well....today, I did manage to get it started for a minute (I noticed when I did get it going... my dash lights, and gauges started working). Any ideas? Thanks for your time!

I would suspect a bad battery and/or alternator. Also check the condition of the battery cables and their connections.

Cut the insulation on the battery cables back about an inch. Check for corrosion/oxidation. I would probably just replace the cables in order to eliminate them as a suspected problem. Also check out the main power supply wire to the under hood relay/fuse box for corrosion or bad connections. Bad/open grounds will do weird things like this, make sure you have good grounds from the battery to the body and to the engine block.

1997 is all alone when it comes to the ignition switch and it's a known problem, with a high failure rate. GM tried new a design in 97 and when it fails, several different circuits may or may not be affected. Most aftermarket manufacturers have fixed the problem. Might be worth checking.
