On the under side of the underhood fuse panel, there is a 68 cavity harness connector. The orange wire is in cavity A2. From the fuse panel, the harness is routed through the firewall near the steering column. Under the dash there is a 48 cavity harness connector that the ignition switch connects to. The orange wire is in cavity D5 of the harness connector. Here's where it starts getting confusing... On the ignition switch connector, the wire is red, (same cavity, D5). Looking at the description of each wire in the connector halves, there are several wires that change color as they pass through the halves.

Both IGN C fuse terminals, along with the orange wire in D5 of the harness connector, and the red wire in D5 of the ignition switch connector, must all show battery voltage at all times. Resistance from both fuse terminals to the connector at the ignition switch must be less than 5 ohms. Inside the ignition switch, the red wire is connected to the yellow wire, in the START position only.

Just to make this even more confusing, in the harness connector under the dash, there are 3 orange wires, and 3 red wires. In the ignition switch connector there are 2 orange wires, and 3 red wires. Each one changes to a different color as it passes through the connector!

hmmm, battery voltage at fuse, but only 3.5-4 volts at connector. time to follow the wires. . .

You found it! The details in post #1 were excellent. Just a matter of tracking it down and locating the open circuit. Good job, thanks for posting back.
