Oil Cooler Delete question
 
Ok I just got done installing my filter onto the block and I have to say it was a pain in the ass. I had to unbolt a lot of stuff like the exhaust manifold and driveshaft. I just was wondering is there an easier way to install/remove the filter when doing oil changes because if it is anything like that every time for an oil change I'm going back to the lines and modifying them next go around.

What filter did you use? If you use a shorter filter than factory you should be able to r&r it without removing anything. I've read some people have used the factory filter without issue as well but I cannot confirm that besides on my own truck but I also don't have all that extra stuff in my way lol!

I used the pf47e filter and this was done on a 96 gmc jimmy 4x4 stock

pf47 filter is the correct filter. It should come out easily, I do not have to unhook anything on my first gen to remove the filter.

Yea this is on a second gen I don't know if it's different underneath but I had no space by the differential to get it to go straight in there to screw on the part on the differential that connects to the drive shaft was just not wide enough to get the filter up there.

If it's any consolation, you're not the only one. I didn't have sufficient space on my '96 4 door to pass even the smaller filter up past the diff to the block. Not sure what the difference is, but there was not even close to enough clearance. I think it's may be the saggy original engine mounts.


I have a lot more room on my '01 Sonoma. For the moment my remote oil lines are not leaking on the Sonoma so I won't be doing the replacement until they start.

thats really strange. ive done tons of oil changes on s10s over the years and never had to unbolt or move anything. wonder if theres something goofy going on like you have a really bad motor mount(s) causing the engine to be lower or the the side a bit

Anyone have the 2" RC lift with differential lowering bracket installed done this?
Ive removed my cooler lines and installed a pf47 hoping it will work. I have yet reinstalled my diff. but plan to this weekend. I responded to this thread with no real replies.

Well I don't think it a bad motor mount but it just won't go past the block and differential there is a little piece on the differential that sticks out just enough to not be able to get the filter up there. I'm doing this as the engine came from a 2wheel drive and it orginally had the filter there and the guy before me used the old lines from the bad motor when he installed the new.motor before I bought it and they were leaking all arounnd the adapter on the block.

Is that little piece on the differential able to be removed like the upper mount arm for the RC lift kit?
