Oil Filter Adapter

Oil Filter Adapter
I just got a 95 Jimmy, I went to change the oil and can't get the filter off. Its been sitting for a few years, so I expected it being hard job. I noticed that the remote adapter mounts are broken while trying to get the filter off. Its barely hanging there so I can't even put a filter wrench on it and use alot of force to loosen the filter. My question is has anyone moved this by extending the lines coming from the engine? I figured if I have to replace this or take it off to get filter off, it would help me to put it in the engine compartment since I use the jimmy for off road driving and it bottoms out from time to time. I wondered if I could cut the rubber section of the lines and use ****** fittings to extend the lines up to mount the filter adapter in an easier, safer place under the hood? Any input would be great, thanks

I'm not quite sure how that would work for you but if you are going to re-route the oil filter location you would have to fabricate a bracket or get another filter adapter and have the hoses extended professionally at a hydraulic hose shop..you need to keep both ends of the original hoses for install purposes.

It is not uncommon for the mounting tabs to corrode & break. If you can find a good one at a salvage yard great if not try the auto stores but you may get stuck going to the dealer.

Why do I have to get a hydraulic line made? Wouldn't ****** fittings and clamps on rubber hose work? I just replaced my fuel lines that run 60 psi with rubber and ****** fittings. Just wondering?

why don't you just buy a new filter mount? (they're not that much). it's not part of the hose assembley, so you can replace what you need. if you're really stuck, just unbolt the housing from the lines, and put it in your vice to remove the old filter.
as for relocating it, where the hell would you put that thing? there's no room up on the inside of the fender to mount it like it was on the 1st gen's.
