Default oil filter skid plate

i have seen many blazers with the oil filter skid plate hanging down. any suggestions on how to fix this... already tried buying replacement nut/bolt fastener from dealer and the just broke off a couple days later.

You're talking about the oil filter access door on the skid plate hanging down?

I've never had a problem with mine. I've nearly destroyed the skid plate, but the door still functions properly. Are you sure you're turning the screw the right way? Can you post some pics of what the problem exactly is?

i have a question about this also..mine's hanging down, and the bolt won't fasten to keep it from hanging down. however, on the door, there's something written like "door must be closed for engine cooling". is this something i need to be worried about? i dont see why it has to be closed (it's just a piece of plastic) other than just not to hang down when you drive and potentially hit something/break off.

It's to direct airflow. It's not going to make a big difference if it's hanging down, but it's not a good idea to leave it that way. All you need is the little piece that it screws into. I don't know what it's called, but you can probably get something that would work at autozone in the helper section. If not, go to the junk yard and snag one off a skid plate there.

Zip-tie it closed. Put on a new one when you change the filter.

not to be a downer, but you're probably going to have to remove the skid plate to zip tie it each time. At that rate, I would just try to replace the part of the locking mechanism that is causing a problem.

No, this is not the case. Simply put, thread the zip tie through the hole in the skid plate, then thread it through the hole in the door and tighten. I have never had to remove this skid plate to do this, and have done this plenty of times.
Sorry to take the wind out of your "down" wind sails.

No need to apologize. Any time I can be proven wrong to help someone, I'll gladly do so.

I didn't realize this was something that you've actually done, I assumed this was just an idea. I didn't think you'd be able to properly thread it through both holes while the plate was on there.
