Default One last check before diving in...

This is fuel pump related, so if you dont care to read ANOTHER post about it, then here is your warning!

Had the typical "cranks but wont start" issue on my 96 blazer when I came out of the grocery store, so here are the things I have checked:

- I have spark (good strong spark that nearly sat me down! )
- All fuses/relays are ok
- I can hear the fuel pump prime when I turn the key on
- Replaced Fuel filter
- Hooked up pressure gauge, get 40 psi when the key is on or when i crank it, drops a bit after a while.

I know it is a fuel delivery problem as the pressure is WAY low for operating range. Thing is, Im not sure if it is the pressure regulator or the fuel pump. I dont want to tear of the manifold, and I dont have the capacity to drop the tank myself, so I am taking it in.

Is it more likely the regulator or the pump?

Interesting... says to replace fuel pump BEFORE the fuel pressure regulator... anyone second this notion?

I agree. Chances are the pump failed before the regulator. Thats the expirience ive had.

thanks for that, I am picking up the pump today and trying the job myself. Good to have at least a little bit more reassurance that I am fixing the right problem. Wish me luck!

Buy a Fuel filter too.. And change it first, just on the off chance.

Geez it's so easy to get jaded and jump for the usual fix.

Just wanted to thank those who had input here. Did the job yesterday and it was a dang nightmare, but it got done.

Word to the wise: be REALLY careful with the fuel tank vent valve or you will buy three like me
