Overheating Brakes

I have a 2001 ZR2. When braking (even when the brakes shouldn't be hot) the car shakes and the brake pedal shakes. I took it to the shop and they said the brakes are overheating. This shouldn't be the case as it does this no matter how long the car has been driven or if I've been braking heavily. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem? Thanks in advance.

what you are experiencing is a brake pulsation, which is the result of high Latteral runout of your brake rotors. Most common cause of excessive LRO is a warped rotor which happens when the brake rotor is warmed up or cooled down to rapidly, such as riding the brake pedal, or hitting a huge mudhole with a really hot rotor (being a ZR2 i'd bet this is what caused yours?). At any rate, you can have the rotors resurfaced and it will correct your problem. Another cause of warped rotors is severely eneven wheel stud (lug-nut) torque.

Sounds like warped rotors to me, so I suspect you misunderstood what the shop said. They probably said that the brakes HAD BEEN overheated more than once. Common causes of warped brake rotors are repeated overheating (sometimes due to heavy use and work brake pads) and/or lug nuts that haven't been tightened correctly.
The shop can tell you whether the rotors can be machined to correct the problem orif they need to be replaced. I suggest that you put new brake pads on, too.
