I have a 2001 gmc jimmy sle 4.3L 2WD named Jimdoggg, that I had never taken to get read and while being a new owner ran into some issues
Jimdog ran pretty fine, til recent, before was only used on very short commutes. Recently has:
-stuttered on the road especially at idling speeds
-loss power completely (scary)
-starting issues
-smells horribly of gas
Going to check it out I got an diagnostic reading and it said I possibly needed a replacement camshaft position sensor. Got the part for replacing, went to check under the distributor cap, the sensor wasn’t wired to anything.
Any help/guiding to solution? Have been doing my best compiling info and research while doing what I can. Right now I’m trying to figure out installing the camshaft position sensor on my own.
Any know if a camshaft position sensor would not be installed? Other issues I might run into from it not being there, whether it can survive without it?
The rest of the wiring harness is probably hanging down there somewhere. I would buy a new connector with a wiring pigtail, splice it on to the damaged wiring, and plug it in.
It will run without that sensor, but not properly.
