Default Parking brake assembly, shot or not??

So my parking brake decided not to latch when applied. I took off the parking brake assembly and what I found was the hook for the spring was jammed way up in the assembly not allowing tension on whatever latches the pedal. Basically the spring was stuck in the release position.

I since freed the spring and now I can't get the hook on the spring to stay behind the tab on the release. Second picture has more detail of the problem:

Here's a closer pic of what is going on:

I clamped the release arm in the fully open(released) position to show the parts closer together. I can get the hook behind the release tab here, but it slips out whenever I let off the clamp. I've tried getting the hook behind the tab at every possible combination of angles between the pedal and release arm, but it always slips out when force is applied.

I can't figure out what is going on and I've searched many threads and forums. I saw one reply on a post that mentioned this and they simply popped that spring right back behind that release tab and it was fine. I can't seem to replicate that.

Oops, apparently I had clamped the assembly into a vice at the point the pedal arm and all that stuff rotates around was pinched. Also, it appears the hook on the spring DOES NOT hook around the tab on the release arm. The tab simply pushes the hook forward to release. About to install back into vehicle so I'll confirm in a few hours.

Funny you should bring up parking brakes. I've been looking for parts number 2&3. What's the official name and where can I get them?

Maybe a scrap yard? Or find the part number and plug that into google search.

Ha, just took me literally 10 seconds to find this:

DormanŽ 924-244 - Chevy Blazer 2001-2005 Parking Brake Shoe Hardware Kit

Kind of amazing/scary we can type anything into google and it comes up instantly.
