Parking Brake Won't Engage

Parking Brake Won't Engage
I have a 1998 Blazer 4x4 4-door. A few months ago, the parking brake stopped engaging. When it worked properly, you would depress the pedal and it would lock in whatever position. Well now, when I push down, it comes right back up. Is there some kind of hydraulic locking thing that stopped working? I pulled back the under dash panel but couldn't figure anything out just by looking at it. Any thoughts?

The locking mechanism should be on the driver's kick panel up under the dash. Mine quit taking a set awhile back and I had to have the mechanism replaced.

The first thing to try would be some penetrating oil.

As you pull out and return the release handle, pay attention to the way the mechanism catches and frees the pedal. You may just need to lubricate and/or "adjust" it.

I have to do mine when the weather imporoves;-P
Lemme know how you get on with your fix. I don't know if I have to remove the side kick panel, or under the steering wheel underdash (where the release is).
