So i replaced a frozen rear caliper yesterday, then tried to bleed them. At first fluid did come out, along with air bubbles. However, the brakes are very spongy and the brake light is on. I tried to re-bleed, but there seems to be no pressure now, just a few drips when i open the bleeder. the master cylinder doesn't seem to be loosing any fluid after i bleed for the first time. PLEASE HELP! i need to drive this thing to work tomorrow!
any suggestions would be appreciated
its a 98 4x4 ls

 

Are you doing a gravity bleed? Someone helping you, doing the "up", "down" method? Could possibly have a collapsed line. Do any of the lines feel spongy or soft?

So it's barely dripping out of all four calipers? Or just the one you replaced? Still sounds like you may have a internally collapsed hose.

 

i can only bleed the one i replaced, it seems that all the bleeder are plugged from corrosion.

 

so im able to open both rear bleeders, the fronts still work fine, is there something in the system that will cut off the flow of fluids to the rear if a line breaks or anything?

 

so i replaced the master cylinder. Brakes are perfect now! thanks for the suggestions everyone!

 

ive had a few cars do this, including a s10... what i guess happens is your master was 14 years old and probably never been pushed farther then 20%. then when you bleed the brakes your pushing it all the way down. theres probably a rust build up or some kinda lip that is there and it ends up tearing the rubber inside the cylinder.

im always careful after replacing pads not to pump the brakes to the floor, just do small 2 inch pumps till the caliper comes out not to cause damage to the master cylinder
