poppet valves.
Can anybody tell me where the poppet valves are located on my 95 chevy blazer, in detail thanks. i need to see if cleaning them will solve my problem on my blazer missing and running rich. and why the tip of the exhaust is black but not smoke only fumes.
they are under the upper intake plenum( the black plastic piece on the intake that the throttle body connects to) They are fairly easy to get to. Once the plenum is off you will be looking right at it. squeeze the tabs on each side of the poppet to pull them out.
Cleaning the exterior won't be very effective. If they don't spray right, replace the whole CPI spider and be done with it. Much more effective use of your time. But I doubt will have any effect on your problem.
Poppets are on the end of the injector spider it is what lets the fuel into the cylinder and is part of the injector, I wouldnt take them out if I were u as u can damage them, you can get the GM fuel system cleaner plus, its suppose to clean the poppets... I have a 97 but the 95's are pretty similar from what I Understand...
I know at the chevy dealer I work at we have a tool that allows you to connect pressurized nitrogen up to the spider unit. The you can open each poppet individually to clean any debris that might be causing the poppet to stick open. You could try calling local dealers near you to see if they have the tool. If i remember i will look up the tool number at work tomorrow for ya. You can either bring the whole vehicle in or just the spider unit.
You cannot open each poppet nozzle individually on a CPI spider, but you can on the 96+ SCFI and later MFI spiders where there are 6 individual electronic injectors. On the CPI spider, there is one electronic injector that opens in a batch type mode allowing fuel to spray from each of the pressure actuated poppet nozzles equally (or should be equal if each poppet nozzle is working properly - i.e. not gummed up).
