Possible transmission problem,engine wont start
Hi,
I am a newbie on this forum but not so new to blazers, I have a problem as follows and really need some advice----
Driving home and the engine started to rev up and down, turned out that the autobox had lost it fluid, pulled over and switched engine off.
Cured leak and topped up the gearbox but the engine will not start.
While on a diagnostic computer it appeared to take a reset and did start but only ran a short distance before stopping and has not started since.
Is there some protective device which will do this or is it just another fault.

also, is there any active codes?

Ah yes indeed!
2001 4.3?V6 auto, I think it's 4x4 but not mine and I havnt looked to close yet.
I am an engineer but slightly towards the older models. www.shetlandcms.co.uk
No fault codes, I've been thinking imobilliser fault but I understand the problem only came up after the blazer was recovered to a garage.
It spins over but will not fire, unless there is a sensor in the gearbox I wonder if the security system has locked the engine out.

The autobox? You aint from around these parts, is ya fella? Just kidding..
I don't think the trans being low on fluid would cause the problems you are having.
However if you are having fuel pressure problems that could match your symptoms. You said the truck had been recovered from a garage, that means it was stored, right ? If that is the case it could be bad gas/ clogger filter. These things need lots of fuel pressure to run right.
I'd start with :
1) listen for the fuel pump to run when the key is first turned on.
2) do a fuel pressure test
3) change the fuel filter
4) be ready to do the fuel pump
All this assuming you have already checked for spark.
Good luck!

Thank you, yes you are right, I am in the Shetland Islands, North Scotland !! My nearest railway is in Norway, have a look at www.shetlandcms.co.uk to see what we do with old cars.
I am more used to Land Rovers and their crazy problems but this Chevy has got me stuck despite 30ish years experience American included.
It was lifted to a good local garage and did not stand long, the fuel is good, it's had all sorts done inc plugs but refuses to start, fuel pressure is something I will check out, do you know if the pump has a fuse, I cant even find a wiring diagram for it, strange that it all happened at the same time thats why I wondered if there could be a link.
The battery has been ground flat a couple of times which wont help the security system, have to admit this is a strange one.
Having said that I wonder if the fault was the fuel pump and not the autobox, the symptom could be the same and I only have the garage to tell me what the original fault was, low oil mmm does sound strange.

Not sure on the fuse, but there should be one. I do know there is a relay under the hood for the fuel pump.
Does it make a whirring noise when you first turn on the key? If not then somethinf is toast, fuse/relay/or pump it's self.
These guys need good fuel pressure or they act like spoiled children !!!

That does sound like what seems to be the very common fuel pump problem, mine had a fuel pump and wiring issues. The new pump cost me about £300 and there were grounding issues with the wiring and my fuel gauge has not worked since ! Also to get to the pump and wiring, the petrol tank has to be dropped.
