Pricing on 4 x 4 repair
Hi all,
My 4wd stopped working on my 98 Blazer. Took it to Aamco for a free check and they tell me I need a new vacuum hose assembly. What is a good price on these parts and how long should the labor be?
Thanks!

Vacuum hoses are relatively cheap, but different shops in different regions charge different rates. Just call or take your blazer around to other shops, tell them what you need done and get quotes, this will give you a really good idea of whats a good deal, just shop around

They need to be more specific.
One of the biggest 4WD faults is from the Actuator that is under the battery tray.
The rubber boot on this actuator tears (very easy to see) so it can't hold the vacuum required to lock in the Front Differential.
The 4WD light on the dash works but no 4wd? is that the problem?
This guy Bypassed the Actuator by using a Choke cable to pull in the larger cable that attaches to the actuator

Yes, I get a light on the dash but no 4WD. Apparently some hoses are cracked and I have a couple of bad connectors. I'd work on it and look myself but I've developed some rather nasty back trouble so poking around in and under cars is out for the meantime. Also, they tested my switch and apparently it is faulty also.

My hose under the battery tray was crimped off because when I put my battery back in after working on it, I dropped the battery on the tray. My 4wd went out so I looked on here at common problems. About 10 min later I took the battery out and pryed the tray up, and bam 4wd works again
