Problems with remanufactured brake calipers
#11
Had a call today to say it was sorted, went round to collect the truck. It turns out that the mechanic actually had a stroke in his sleep on Sunday and woke up paralysed down his left side which is why he couldn't finish it. I hopped in and found the bloody brakes are jam packed with air as the pedal is down to the floor before anything happens and the brake warning light is on so I drove it very slowly home on the e brake and will have to bleed it myself tomorrow. Whoever they got in to fit the calipers either didn't bleed it at all or did a very very crappy job.
At least the calipers are on and sort of working, definitely feels more lively without the brakes dragging. Just got to sort out all the faulty ones and send them back.

Spent some time on it today, had to change over the fixed part of the calipers as the new ones didn't come with that part so he'd used them from two of the calipers I need to send back rather than the ones from my old calipers. The pads were a very tight fit in the calipers so I spent a few minutes with a file and got them running nice and smoothly and it turns out he's only replaced one hose so I had to go back to the garage and retrieve the missing one. I then spent some time bleeding them up and got a better pedal and the brake warning light to go out which is an improvement, I'm still not sure if they're not leaking so I've cleaned and dried them off and will have a check tomorrow. I still need to get a better pedal and get the hose changed so I've found a guy just round the corner from my house thats going to finish it off for me. Having seen the Talbot Horizon rally car he's built complete with vauxhall redtop and the resto he's just finishing on an old David Brown tractor he's doing for someone he's good.
The end might be in sight! (assuming it doesn't fail the MoT on anything else.)
