Question, instead of a V-8, what about an I-5?
Hey fellas, OK, heres the deal. The motor in my 2000 S-10 Blazer is starting to show her age, just under 170,000. I even notice the fuel consumption is starting to climb, beside the nickle and dime things. I was thinking on an upgraded 4.3 (a 4.3 with small block Chevy parts), but someone at a bench racing session told me that I should look into an Inline 5 with a small turbo. I use the blazer as my daily driver and it's only seen snow. I am wondering what is the vote because I heard good and bad things about the I-5. Thanx Guy

I believe it's been discussed that the I5 from the TrailBlazer is entirely too long to fit in the engine bay of a S-Series truck.

I would look for a low mileage 5.3. Will make a ton more power, more than likely be better on gas, and easy to find. I will be going that route with my Blazer in the next couple of years. Mine only has just over 101k on it though.

I stand corrected. It's the I6 that's too long to fit in an S-Series. But I second what Longer said. If you're going to go through the trouble of a motor swap, my vote is for 5.3 as well.

I've seen an old 292 i6 in the engine bay of a first gen with very minor work to the firewall. Rad was in the "forward" spot and they wasn't running ac. How much bigger is the new ones compared to an old one? Throws my dreams of putting a buick i8 or a gmc 502 i6 in a first gen don't it, lmao.
As for the question, honestly by the time you fab up all the parts, get a turbo tuned and running right you will still get stomped by stock lx v8s. An engine with no boost will always last longer under normal wear and tear than one that has the added stress of boost.

I doubt a 502 i6 would ever fit in a s-10, bet ya would come closer getting that i8 to fit. Even if you did gmc was made to be a big truck/bus engine. Had no hp, was all grunt at low rpms. Gmc did make a v6 that was 305, lil more rare that a 502 i6 was 2 305s joined to make a v12. All torque monsters and wouldn't turn any rpms. Seen and driven 502 and the 305 and they are mean. The buick i8 I own and that bad boy is about 5 1/2 feet of block alone, then again its in a car that is almost 20 feet.
I wish we got the new v6 duramax here in the states, that would be a dream engine in my blazer. I can get all the free used motor oil and cooking oil I can haul off in a month. Ill do my part by being green cause I'm cheap.

3.0l isuzu design. About the same power as the 4.3 but stomps its butt in torque.

I've heard rumors of a 4.5/4.6/5.0 version in the works also. Seems everybody claims a different size. Seems japan keeps tighter lipped on what is in the works.

The GMC V-12 is the 702 double 6 cylinder motor. I came in tractor trailer trucks between 1965 and 1969. I should know because my best bud has one sitting in a corner of his garage, no he will not sell it (I asked already, lol). I am already looking for a 5.3 LS motor and trans set up for my 2001 Jaguar XJ8. My question would be, how easy would it be? As in would the LS motor bolt to the Blazer's trans or do I need an adapter or the trans it came with? Do i need a 4X4 trans and will it bolt to the transfer case? What about the radiator? do I have to mount it forward with the a/c unit? I ask because i want a simple in and out job. I built a couple of S-10 V-8 trucks and i don't want to do the extra fab that goes into building one. It needs to be a weekend job, put it up on jacks Saturday morning and drive it on Sunday night.
