Definitely not factory, remove it & tape the bare wire. The switch is called a "clutch cycling switch". When the refrigerant system is fully charged and you select AC, the switch activates the compressor clutch. When pressure reaches ~22psi the switch deactivates the clutch and the pressure rises. When it reaches ~42psi, the switch activates the clutch and the cycle repeats. If refrigerant charge is low, the clutch will cycle rapidly. When low side refrigerant pressure drops below ~22psi, the switch will not activate the clutch.
thanks Captain, I figured I could just remove it and tape it up, just wanted to be sure first. Still gotta take it to a professional eventually, I have A/C problems and have no idea what's wrong. It'll blow cold, then the cold will quit, sometimes it gets cold again, sometimes it doesn't.

Might be low on refrigerant. The HT6 compressor is a split case design and they leak at the O ring. Usually on the under side of the compressor, called a "belly leak". If that's the problem, and you replace it with another HT6, it will also leak. Sanden makes a redesigned compressor that doesn't leak, much better design.

whenever I get a few extra spending dollars, I'll head over to Firestone to get the problem diagnosed. I think the guy told me it's $70 just for a diagnosis. IMO, places charge way to much for just a diagnosis and no actual repair work.

Some people think doctors charge way too much just for a diagnosis. You pay them for what they know, and what they do. Diagnosis is part of the job, without it, they wouldn't know what to do. You wouldn't expect them to do the work for free would you? Knowledge isn't cheap

I guess my problem is that I do know, I just don't have all the proper tools to do it. So when someone tells me a price, I automatically think it's an unfair price; it's just my nature.

Some shops break it down on the estimate and the invoice: diagnosis labor time & repair labor time. Others lump it all together. Me? I break it down so there's no question. They see diagnosis time, labor time, and parts. If they decline the job, they know there are still charges for diagnosis. Gotta get paid for what you do..... except on the forum
