Default Rear Bumper

I ****ed up my rear bumper. From what I understand there are 3 parts to the rear bumper? The main bumper where the rear hatch is, then the two side pieces and two bumper fillers? I have to replace the main bumper that fits across and possible the side rear. How doI start?

It helps us to know what year your vehicle is. This is for a 2000 Blazer

First remove the bumper extensions
[ol]Remove three screws securing the rear bumper extension to the wheelhouse panel.
Remove the bolt that retains the rear bumper extension to the brace.
Remove the nuts that retain the rear bumper extension to the rear quarter panel[/ol]
Remove the license lamps
[ol]Remove all of the step pads from the bumper.
Remove the clips securing the fascia at the bottom of the impact bar.
Remove the fascia. [/ol]

Default RE: Rear Bumper

Well i recently had to remove my center rear bumper fascia. All I needed to do was to pull up the top rubber step pad and remove the bolts from the bumper mounting brackets that are accesible when the rubber step pad is removed, the bottom step pad does not need to be removed to remove the fascia. It is not necessary to remove the side "pods" unless you are replacing one from damage.

Since you need to remove the rear bumper fascia to replace it then you will need to remove all the other parts, license plate lites w/harness and the lower step pad. These items can be removed after fascia is taken off the bumper mounting brackets...

If you don't need to replace the side extensions then it should be easy. There are two types of center sections one is more like a truck step bumper, the other is more stylish. But they both have a rubber step pad that runs the full length of the center section, this is removeable by lifting it off. When you do this you should find 4 bolts holding it to the mountin brackets underneath. After removing the bolts the center section should come loose. To totally remove it you will have to remove the license plate lighting wiring that is attatched on either side of the rear license plate. That should do it for removing the center section but there might be some small things I might have forgotten (hopefully not) but they would be noticed when you try to pull it away from the mounting brackets.

I had removed mine to install a trailer hitch and the instructions for the hitch installation recomended removing the center section and that is how it went....
