I can't remember what the gear ratio is but if you go to a junk yard and match the production codes in the glove box then you should be fine. I took one out of a jimmy or some such thing for my blazer. only difference was that the replacement had wires for abs and the old one didn't, just pulled the wires and everything was hunky dory!

a 4x4 and 2wd won't interchange. On a 98 you can put any gear you want in it but you will have to have a programmer to calibrate the speedo. If your 4x4 you also need to have the front match the rear ratios.

GU2 2:73 ratio

GU4 3: 08 ratio

GU5 3:23 ratio

GU6 3:42 ratio

GT4 3:73 ratio

GT5 4:10 ratio

GQ1 Open Differential Rear Axle

G80 Positraction/Locking Rear Axle

Does yours have disk rear brakes and the other have drums? They still swap out but you're downgrading.

Not 100% sure but I wanna say 98 was the first year s-series came with rear disks. From my understanding the brakes swap out easy enough.

My question is why are you so worried about swapping rearends?
