replacing wiper assembly questions
Hey all,
I need to replace the driver side wiper arm on my wife's blazer as it tried to run for about a second or less before it stripped clean of all the happy little grooves that drive it on the mount. My familiarity is from having replaced the wiper linkage on my '91 yota truck, which was very simple and easy, but I did it in a heated garage too - don't have that luxury here.
If I could ever get it warm enough, I could band-aid it with JB Weld for the time being perhaps. but it won't be warm here until spring.
I am assuming it is not possible to only replace one side of the linkage as the mounts are sealed units that cannot be disassembled individually. Is this correct? If so, and I imagine it is, because the assemblies I am finding online are for both sides as one unit, it's such a bummer. ICE bites!!! New England Bites.
anyway, is there anything you guys can advise me on for replacing this setup on her car? Crap. I wish I would've been there when she went to run those. I am always so adamantly against running anything on a vehicle's exterior in the winter where there is ice on the vehicle. Drives me nuts when electric windows are used when there is a line of ice at the bottom of the window or whatever else. arrrggh! oh well.
Thanks in advance for any helpful feedback!

It is probable that the pivot shaft can be replaced separately, however, I do not have first hand knowledge of this. You may be able to talk one of the kind people who are parting out their trucks to open up their trucks and snap some pictures of the part, especially if you agree to buy it from them. That will help you do the actual replacement on your truck.
As an aside, please always remember to include your vehicle information.

Never fire up the wipers if they are frozen down with ice(yep, I'm not saying you did that. I did, and stripped the gear)!
But, for me, I was able to take the nut off, and added a lock washer, and carefully torqued it down, and it's been good for about a year now. You might try that.

celchlepp,
Go to any hardware store and get some 'Quick-steel',nead it up,apply it to stripped teeth area, reassemble and wait tilluntil spring for correct parts/warmth.
