Well, Seafoam sounds better than taking apart the motor. I'll definitely give it a try. Just curious, what drives you to believe it is not a head gasket? Thanks!

 

compression isn't going into the cooling system and coolant isn't getting into the cylinder.

 

Thanks Les. We've done the Seafoam, now we'll see if it clears up after we put some miles on it. It's now back at my buddies house and he's using it as his daily driver. I'll check on it in a week or so. Good thing with that is, he works in Seattle and will put some miles on it. He travels there and back twice a week and it's a 1.5 hour drive one-way.

 

Well after the seafoam treatment, burning through two tanks of gas, and fuel injector cleaner we decided to take it apart this past weekend; since there was no change in the registered misfires on CYL 4. The machine shop reported back today that the passenger side head was cracked. So, unfortunately, disassembly was inevitable. A replacement cyl head and rebuilding the other is going to add another $500 to this little project. We pick up the rebuilt heads on Thursday and plan to put it back together this weekend. Fun, fun... At least my buddy is buying the beers!

Woo Hoo! Finally a success story with this Blazer. We got it all back together with the rebuilt heads this weekend and finished it today; no leaks, no misfires, and it now runs smooth! We're moving on to fix the 4-wheel drive! Thanks to all for the knowledge gained, I couldn't have completed this job without the help of this forum!
