Default Rotor Hitting Dist Cap

Just completed a major tune-up on my '02 using all Delco parts....and the samething happened as with the Well parts.....the rotor is hitting the cap!

I can make it stop by twisting the cap, putting downward force on the back side, lifting up just a bit on the front. Both cap screws are tight, so I loosen the front and tighten the rear a tad bit more....have not tried it yet. I may have to use some small washers between the cap and distributor.

Anyone else run into this?

Time for a new distributor, the bushings are worn out. Find one that has an aluminum housing, not plastic. Don't forget to check & adjust camshaft retard after you replace it

There does seem to be alot of side ways play in the distributor shaft...so expect that a new distributor is in my near future; will look for an aluminum one.

I did however get the knocking to stop by really tightning down the rotor screws. I think they are way too tight, but perhaps the blue thread locker that comes on the new screws makes it feel this way.

Anyways the knocking has stopped.

Captain Hook - where does one find a replacement distributor with an aluminum housing at? All I can find are the plastic ones like the one I have.

The last one I got, (last Summer) was made by Dorman, but they have since quit making them. Might try Summit Racing online or a similar "performace" auto parts supplier. Someone still makes them, can't remember who though.

Summit Racing has one...$160.
Also found some on ebay...for ALOT less....could be the same as the one from Summit...just cost less...and all still be junk from China.

Think I may order a cheap one just to see.

Good plan. Seems like the one I got was under $100. As long as it's got an aluminum housing, you should be ok.

Mine was doing the same thing. My problem was just the screw for the distributor was loose. Maybe check that before anything.
