"Service Engine Soon" Light
2000 Chevy Blazer LS 4x4, 4.3L V6--- so when i turned into the parkin lot at a concert last night, my Service Engine light came on. i let it sit for almost 3 hours while at the concert. i start it again, and its still on. it runs just as smooth and shifts like it did before, so im not sure what it could be. im not too good with these computer-ran motors. i mostly like the older truck motors that require minimal wirin and computer crap. what should i check out?
i know in my brother-in-laws Chevy 1/2 ton the light comes on when the mileage gets to a certain point, and its supposed to be a routine maintenance thing. does the blazer have this same thing? thanks!

What he is referring to is probably for an oil change. Go to autozone or any other parts store and get the code read and post the code.

yeah, thats what i meant. but i wasnt sure how to word it better
i just changed the oil about 1k miles ago. whats up with it comin on after?

Blazers do not have any sort of oil change reminder system. The SES light is telling you that the computer has detected an issue with the engine or emission control system. As advised above, have AutoZone, Pep Boys, etc read the code(s) and report back in this thread with the code number so we can help you.

i feel stupid now. my mom told me her light would come on in her car when the gas cap was too tight, cause it couldnt vent. so last night before i went to bed, i loosened the cap. when i started it today, the light never came on. so its like i was freakin out about nothin.
do these Blazers have an emissions system for the gas tank that if it doesnt vent enough, the light comes on? think that coulda been my problem?
sorry for freakin out about the light. my last truck was a 1980 GMC with a 350 and not computer at all. so this stuff scares me. im mechanically inclined, but not too good with electronics and computer crap..

actually it is the opposite, if you run the truck with the gas cap loosened, it will turn on the check engine light. with a code for large evap leak...
screw your gas cap on and get the codes read - then come back on with the codes (the codes, not what they tell you needs to be replaced) even if the light is off, it should have it stored in the computer.
