SES Light On The Drive Home

SES Light On The Drive Home
So I was making my way Home from the GF's house and I noticed my SES light was on. I did get gas today which makes me think its just the cap. But after I got gas I drove around a bit too, Which makes me think its not. I pulled off the highway to see if anything happened if I restarted it. Nothing, but I did rev it up a few times and noticed that when the RPMs were coming down my Volt gauge went down significantly and my lights almost went out. The truck never died and held good power (+14V) all the way home. Since new(to me) the truck always had a rattle/hissy sound that did seem to be a little more noticeable but it coulda just been paranoid ole me. I do need an oil change too!(200km ago)
Just wondering if theres anything I can do, other than take the gas cap off and re-fit it properly, to not have to go to PartSource and get the codes read?
Thanks,
Brad.

yar x2 on the seal.
put a rag or something down in the tube and scrape the old crap clean, and for F**Ks sake, do it when the engine is COLD
this could be a good time to jump on one of the dex-cool threads and blame the old tstat on it
