yeah this one is a funny one, i noticed when i bought my truck that the button didnt open the latch but after i would drive it , it would be open when i parked, and today while backing up and stopped and shifted to drive i heard the actuator, well actuating lol . so my question is ...
has ANYONE ever had this happen? also it had an aftermarket alarm when i got it but i already removed the wiring for it cause it was busted.

Column or floor shift?
I'm betting you have a wiring fault that is some how affected when you shift. I would start by inspecting any wiring that is near the shift linkage.

I am guessing that connector yuou are talking about is for an OBD reader of some sort. Looking at you year looks like it would be OBD I. That is if it is up and to the right of the parking brake pedal.

Forget all that. I bet your button on the tailgate dosnt work well either take something (screwdriver) and pull the button out its stuck and spray some lube around there. once you get that button to work properly everything else will be normal. mine gets stuck every couple of months and does the samething when i unlock the doors it does it too, fix tailgate button -all good
