Default showing 3rd gear in park????

As the title says... My blazer is showing that its in third gear even when the shifter is in park. Its a 99 ZR2.

Backstory: Yesterday i replaced my ignition switch ( electrical part ). Job went fine no issues whatsoever. I replaced it because i thought that held my problem. Turned out to be the multifunction switch which I just replaced a few minuted ago. Again, no issues with anything. Security light comes on then turns off like normal

Went to turn on the car and it just sat there. Then I noticed the dash. The CEL and a few other precheck lights come on but thats it. Not untill I hit the trip button on the gauges do the rest come on. Thats when I finally noticed that the selector reads 3rd gear. Even with the actual lever in park. Tried cycling through the gears with the button depressed and it didnt move.

Please tell me there is some kind of stupid thing i gotta do that i didnt know of? Really getting tired of dumping money into this thing. I just rebuild the engine or id push it to the street with a for sale sign. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help.

Sounds like something just not quite together correctly after replacing the igntion switch. It has been too long since I had the covers off the steering column to say exactly, but I think that once the covers are back off you will see what is not quite correct...and will take care of all the problems.

Its all apart still. It has to be something small and stupid i didnt do or something like that. Ill look into it some more tomorrow. Thankfully its a third vehicle now so its not super pressing to get fixed

so i assume the blazer is the same setup as my sierra was since same trans externally etc. that's my disclaimer. assuming it is it sounds like your shift cable is broken or disconnected or not routed properly. there is a physical cable (at least in the column shift models) that starts on the right bottom of the column, routes up over the column in a holder to keep it from rubbing under the carpet through the bottom of the floor under the driver seat (in a full size truck) then to the trans. the connector to the trans is a delicate piece it may be broken or disconnected that's where i would start. keep even if it is hooked up if the cable isn't routed properly it will be too long or short and cause is to stay in the wrong gear despite the column selector being in the right place..... hope that's some help and not a wild goose chase!
