Slow Gas fill up
I recently picked up a 2001 Blazer for my girlfriend. The day we got it the tank was low so we fueled up and had no issues. Shortly after the purchase the vehicle was hit in the parking lot of our apartments. I borrowed her Blazer to go somewhere on Saturday and the tank was at about 3/4. In an attempt to top it off I was only able to put in about .20 of a gallon before the pump shut off automatically. Thought maybe the guage was busted but drove about 180 miles and when I tried to fill up again it did the same thing. With the engine running today I was able to get a little more in at a time and filled it to full (after about 20 minutes to get 10 gallons in). Between the wheel well and the back bumper is a small rectangular box with three lines. One has a yellow tag that says fuel, the other two are ???. Since the vehicle was hit right there by the runner I am wondering if that box might have something to do with the evaporation and vacuum and may have incurred some internal damage on impact.
If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated. Would also like to know what the part is actually called so I can look accurately for a replacement.
Thanks,
Mike

So it's probably just a coincidence that it seemed to happen after getting hit in such close proximity to that rectangular canister looking thing. Is the vent under the hood or on top of the gas tank?
Thanks for the input?

Looks like I'm gonna have to buy the manual on AllData. Hope the wireless works out in the garage so I don't mess up too much while I'm under it. Bad part is she'll be driving my truck til I get this fixed
. Don't want to put any undo stress on the fuel pump or the rest of the vacuum system.

...my 01 Jimmy has that exact same box you described, right up under the rear bumper on the driver's side. That is your evap canister, and the fuel tank has to vent through it. Sounds as though the box did get damaged, or perhaps one of those lines may have gotten crushed or something, when the vehicle got hit, in which case the tank can't vent. And if it can't vent, the pressure of the trapped fuel vapors will trip the automatic shutoff in the nozzle and not allow you to add fuel to the tank.
...The top line comes from the tank, and the bottom line goes to the vent valve (which is covered by the spare tire); the middle (smaller) line goes to the front of the vehicle and is not actually involved in tank venting...

what do you need to know? The rectangular box is for the emissions/ fuel system, and it does have vent hoses that go to the engine, and fuel tank. If the lines are the same as for my 98 then I have the GM shop manual, I could scan and email them to you.
I know what ur talking about ND Mike, my 01 blazer does the same thing but it just started doing it out of the blue one day when i filled, and its really annoying and i wish i had an answer, ive been tinkering with mine but one luck so for.
Thanks for all the input guys. I actually just spent about 23 dollars on justanswer to talk with a 'Chevy expert'. Zed, what you said is pretty much what the guy on the site said. He suggested I drop the spare and check the valve. He also suggested taking the tubing off of the canister and blowing it out with medium pressure air, blowing into the smaller of the two large tubing holes and plugging the second, release, plug, release, and tapping on the canister at the same time to loosen anything up inside.
Thanks again and hope this helps anyone with a similar issue get it resolved without the reaming from a dealer. I'm sure hoping it works for me. I tried at two autoparts stores to find the canister and they said junkyard or dealer would be the only place to get it.

Just an extra note, the 'Expert' said that driving it like that shouldn't cause any issues on the rest of the fuel system or pressure monitoring when driven. It's just a pain in the butt at the pump since it takes so long to fill up. I did notice that at a slow rate, with the engine running while fueling, it will go a little longer before doing the autoshut off of the pump. Took me 15 minutes of cussing to figure that out
