Smog Pump

Smog Pump
Hello. I have a 99 Chevy Blazer, the check engine light came on, well I went to have the code checked and it was P0410. Well here is my question we replaced the smog pump and now when I start up my blazer it makes this loud winding noise. It only last about 30 seconds, but never did this until I put the new part on. Is there something we missed when changing the part. Thank so much...

Sometimes the pumps take a while to wear themdrlves in. They're carbon vanes wearing against a carbon cylinder in the pump. If it doesn't quiet down somewhat siin I'd unvestugate it but if you give it a chance to "seat" itself in it probably will.

Thanks for the reply. It is a new pump so I am hoping that it will quiet down. Thanks again...

You can take a stethescope and listen to it. If you don't have one a piece of old garden hose cut ti fit works good too.

My pump is brand new and screams as well. I think its pretty normal. I still can't get my SES light off even after replacing the pump. Ugh

What year is your truck?

Have you had the codes read? And after the pump change (assuming that was what code was turning on the light) did you have the codes erased?

Oh yeah, it was the same code after I replaced the pump. I think it was a 410? I checked all the vacum lines, the fuse etc. I do not have a multi meter so have not checked the MAF sensor (I think the MAF is tied into this). I have no burnt hoses off the pump or anything like that either. I basically gave up on trying to get this issue fixed, but if you have an idea, I'll give it a shot.

When you replaced the pump did you also remove the battery and check the 30A fuse for the pump in the fender?
