I've never had a car do this before and I was wondering if I will need to start looking into replacement wheels. It is like this in a few other spots on all rims although this is the worst spot.

 

It's just surface corrosion on the aluminum rim. Nothing really to worry about it and would take refinishing the area (or the whole rim) to get rid of it. It is a product of the style of wheel weights that are installed. They have a steel clip and steel doesn't get along with aluminum.
