Spare tire carrier comes open while driving

Every once in a while my spare tire will just randomly come open while I'm driving... It's haopened a few times and at first I thought I either didn't close it at all or not good but I havnt opened it in days have any of you had this problem? How did you fix it? Thanks

maybe i dont have time to answer you
but i will =) sounds like the lock needs to be lubricated . the lock might not be locking on the pin cause of rust
mostly when i close mines i pull it a tad to make sure its locked

Lol thanks for the fast reply that's what I was thinking too I just want to be sure nothing else could be wrong... But nothing else looks wrong or broken or anything so I'll just wd 40 it and see what happens

Yea i oil mine occasionally i had mine open while towing a trailer and the tire got stuck on the trailer jack

I've got a second latch to ensure the factory latch won't do what you have already experienced.
No, I didn't fabricate it myself, and no, the guy who made them isn't doing it anymore. IF I can find my camera (just moved) I can take a few pics for you.
No promise on finding the camera, though.

i just used a good stanley locking cable...works all the time.

do you use that part of your truck often ?
i do its going to be a pain in the but to remove the cable all the time but yea mine wont open unless its not locked right thats why i pull it a tad to see if she locks

I always pulled on mine to make sure it was latched, sometimes I had to push pretty hard
