Spare tire hoist mods?

Spare tire hoist mods?
Howdy all,
I am preparing my Beast for camping season. One of the things on my "to do" list is to remove the spare tire from the trunk down to the hoist.
Today I've spend some time taking off the bumper and removing the hoist. What I found is a stuck, rusty hoist and a steel cord without an end clamp either.
I got it all extracted, drilled the rivets and here come my "lego bricks":
So... time to make a decision:
- Cleaning of the internal parts is no big deal, neither cutting out a new side-metal parts. I might aim to overhaul this hoist, but then I've found way too many stories of damaged cord ends and tires falling out at the grocery stores
- Ordering a new one is a bit pricey ($180+$50 of international shipping), but yet it is going to have a cord that is prone to breaking
So, I am asking myself why the heck I want to rely on a genuine solution that has proven to be unreliable (breaking cords, stuck hoist, etc)? Actually I am thinking of doing a mod wit a steel rack underneath. Kindly asking if somebody could spare a bit of experience in this matter? Any ideas for mod options are greatly welcome.
Cheers,
Mike

I've noted D.Trump mentioned of inequity of the car trades between EU and US and I'm crossing my fingers he will eventually take some real actions. The excise and taxes for importing cars from US literally doubles the price. True car must have a sound of V6 or V8, and let the diesel engines go with the ships...

I've slept with the problem over night and I woke up with an option for a support:
What I am gonna need is some pipes, a pipe bender and a welder. Pipes ends would go on the hinges as shown on the pictures. Then, they would come underneath a spare tire (with some sort of a support maybe) and their second ends would come together and will be locked on a trailer bar....
Now is a good time to poke for a friend with a pipe bender & welder

I'd probably come back to the subject in a while. I am on a LIM job since last week. A one day to disassemble everything and I've been putting things together since Thursday I have a feeling I got way too much into details...
