Default Spark plug ticking sound?

This is the first time I noticed a "ticking" sound coming from the truck. It doesn't sound like an exhaust leak but more like an electrical ticking sound. After unplugging all the spark plug wires and resetting them, the sound is not as loud and the "ticking" pattern has changed. Ideas? Do you think I need new plug wires? I recently replaced the distributor cap and rotor with AC Delco parts. I bought new plugs but I haven't changed those out yet.

Oh, and the plugs everyone says to buy are AC Delco Iridium (41-993). They are not the double platinum plugs like I've seen listed on some of the responses - just an FYI.

Did ya check out the coil? the coil on my dads 92 shorts out sometimes and arches off its self. Id go out there tonight when its dark, and look for some of that blue lighting! Take ya a bottle of spray water and see if you can make it arch.

So, if I found out it's the coil, do I have to replace it with AC Delco or can this part be replaced with something a bit cheaper?

eh to be honest i havent really seen any quality differences when it comes to coils. Ive used a few aftermarket coils on different vehicles and never had any issues. Just keep your old one in the trunk as a spare incase the new one goes out.

Update:

Clicking sound is gone. I was able to change out the Autolite Platinum's with AC Delco Iridium's (41-993). As soon as I performed this upgrade, the "ticking" sound went away.

Cool,i bet one of the plug boots were a little loose and causing it to tick, then when you replaced the plug it fixed the boot problem.
