Spark plug wire removal
Hello guys,
New member here with a quick question.... I am in the middle of chasing a miss on idle mostly involving the #1 cylinder and was looking to move a few wires around to see if I can rule out the wires being the problem. The only hold up is those darn retainers, the best I can come up with is a small screwdriver and lots of pressure and was wondering if anyone had a quick tip on how to get those evil retainers to unhand my wires.

BTW quick bio, 2005 blazer original owner now with 78,000kms and from what I have been reading I am just entering the "failure time" (should have bought the extended coverage!!!). I already have a poor idle with a miss (with that great 0300 code), just replaced the t-stat, and my fuel gauge just started bouncing so you'll probably here from me quite a bit in the next little while

Once you get it figured out, they really are quite easy. I do not know how many of them I have had to "play" with, but after a bit it gets second nature. I just use a very short, very small flat blade screwdriver to pop them open. If you feel for the hinge in the retainer, pry on the opposite side. If you have a mechanics mirror and a flash light, you can get a look at it and see how the catch works. It should give you the information that you need to pop it open.
Have you tried to mist water over the wires with the engine running? Works best at night where you can better see the arcs jump (provided there is insulation damage to the wires).

Thanks for the quick reply I have done the "mist test" with no arcing if you have a few minutes the reason I am checking the wires (on the advise of a GM tech) can be found here http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=924387 BTW I started this thread before finding this site or I prob would have started here
