Default Speedo working on and off

Hi,

My 2000 ZR2 5-speed is running hot and cold. I bought the truck two months ago and it must have been sitting for a while, my mechanic mentioned because rust collected on the underside. I have 31" tires all around and I bought it like that. At first the gas gauge and speedometer were not functioning. The most dangerous part is on the highway where the speedo shows 30-35 MPH when I am going at least 55-60 MPH. I drove it around maybe 100 miles and I topped it out at that time (98MPH I guess) and the Speedo started working again. It worked fine until I brought the car to the garage at which point I got a tune-up, coolant flush, oil change, new shocks, new pitman arm, and serpentine belt. Now it went back to showing 35 when I am going 60. Can it be the VSS?

Just as a side note I have introduced Chevron Techron into the gas like Swartlkk had previously said to do to try to salvage the gas gauge sensor and it has shown a difference from only one application. I will keep doing that every time i fill up until it is as correct as I could get it.

Default Speedometer Round 2

Hello everyone. I have a 2000 Blazer ZR2 5 speed..

I posted earlier about a problem with the speedo having mood swings, working when it feels like it. It is now officially showing only half the speed that I am going.

I live in NYC and the speed limit is 50 mph. I go 60 mph on the highway to and fro work and the speedo shows 30-35 mph steady. I know I am going 55-60 because everyone else on the highway can't be going 30 mph. What do I need to replace? This is my first non-hooptie vehicle and I wax her myself. I intend on keeping her for as long as I am in school (8+ yrs) so I definitely want her at her best.

Thanks everyone!

Check your VSS sensor connections. Remove the VSS sensor and clean it. The VSS sensor is located at the tail housing on the back of the transfer case.
