Default start up

i have a 97 blazer and if i let it sit, shut off, for more than about 20 minutes it doesnt start right away. it just cranks for a couple seconds and then finally fires. would this be something to do with a fuel delivery problem? also after the car sits when i put it in drive the engine stutters almost like a misfire. but if i let the engine warm up for about a minute it runs fine. any suggestions on possible problems/fixes would be helpful. ide rather not pay the price of a shop

thanks

ok i replaced the fuel filter and that took care of the "missfire" but starting still takes a few seconds after it sits. i was told that it may be the fuel pump? if it is where is it located and how hard is it to do myself?

How much does the fuel pressure bleed down while it sits? It may just be a very slow leak that is causing the fuel pump to have to completely repressurize the system. If this is what is happening, then it is possible that cycling the key to the RUN position until the fuel pump stops, OFF, then RUN again may help by ensuring that the pump has adaquate time to repressurize the system.

i really dont know how much the pressure drops. i have not checked that. so it may not be dropping at all. would there be anything else that would cause the engine to just turn over for about 5 - 10 seconds and then fire? i will assume its not the battery since i replaced it in the spring. but i am not ruling that out because i did run my stereo for almost 7 hours on just the batt.

ok the problem is still going on. i have changed the fuel filter, and put in some injector cleaner. that took care of the stutters after start up, but starting the engine still takes a little bit. could this be a bad fuel pump relay? i really dont want to drop the cash for a new pump and find out that isnt the problem.

I don't think that this is caused by a bad fuel pump, but it is possible. Does the motor sound like it is spinning over as fast as it should?
