starter problem please help!!
#1
I have a 98 chevy blazer 4x4 two door base model. I had just rebuilt the engine and now putting it together. I'm trying to turn the engine over, the power and everything comes on when I turn the key but as soon as I turn the ignition over nothing happends. No sounds or nothhing coming from the starter. I connected all the wires correctly to the battery and to the alternator. And Ican rotate the engine by hand with a ratchet. And the starter worked the last time I used it. I do notice when I switch gears, the indicator box that tells you what gear your in isn't there anymore, but I can shift between gears. So is it a security problem. A neutral safety switch problem or a relay problem. !?!! Thanks

Neutral switch would be the first thing I'd check. Try starting it in neutral. It's possible the park indicator is maladjusted.

youre neutral safety switch might just need to be adjusted or it might be bad, its on the driverside of the transmission and looks like this

its in place for safety reasons, so you dont start the truck in drive and go barreling through your garage.
if you have a column shifter just pushing up on it a bit to see if that get it started, like hold it upward when you turn the key.

Here's a tip in case you end up replacing the neutral safety switch: the connectors on the side of the transmission are secured with a type of glue as well as the locking tabs. You'll need to release the locking tabs and then heat up the connectors with a heat gun to release the glue.

Well when i replaced the transmission I had to use the old safety switch off my old one so I switched them so I don't think its broke. The steering column shifter is loose from what it use to be, but it still shifts correctly I just think it needs adjusted but thanks for the advice! Really appreciate it. I will try to push up on the shifter and see if it does start in park. Ill update you thanks guys!
