Default Starting problems

Hello all, I have a 98 blazer 4 door with the 4.3 vortec engine and it has a slew of problems but for the most it ran good. I need a new vehicle to be honest with all of you but the way the economy is, it isnt going to happen anytime soon so I have to try and limp this one along for the time being. I have been searching for the entire morning on this site and have come across many similar problems but the circumstances and additional problems seem to be a little different than mine, needless to say I havent found an answer.

The main issue that has just started happening over the past 2-3 days, but it doesnt want to start cold. When I turn the key it turns over normally but will not fire. When I let off the key it kinda starts and runs super rough, any throttle input will kill it and it will sit there and rock and spit and feel like its going to fly out of the engine bay. Eventually it ends up killing the battery and I'll have to jump it, I tried hitting it with some starting fluid but it seems to make it worse which is what makes me think its flooded. Last night about midnight I had to move it and it started right up as it always has, right around 7:30 this morning it gave me the same problem. Eventually after about an hour of screwing around it will fire up, once it starts and I can apply some throttle, it will clear out and run normally and will do so for the day, but once it sits overnight it does it again.

I havent done anything to it as far as trying to fixing it, it just started and I dont know where to start, as with any blue collared person today, its all about money......and not having enough of it to just drop it off and have someone who knows what they are doing fix it, but if I could afford it I wouldnt be driving a 98 blazer, not that its a bad vehicle...but its getting close to needing to be replaced and I just need it to last a little longer.

Any help getting in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

As with nearly EVERY thread on this subject, test the fuel pressure & leak down and post the results.

Hi guys,
My 2000 Jimmy starts rough after it sits. It clears out after about 30 seconds and Then runs fine. What should I check?
Het SWARTLKK, what tools do I need to get inorder to test the fuel pressure & leak down?
Thanks in advance for any help!

A fuel pressure gauge would get you started. If the leak down is in excess of the values noted in the tech article, a few adapters (also noted in the tech article) would allow you to test at the fuel filter location to determine if the leak is in the pump assembly or in the motor.

I have pretty much the same issue. Narrowed it down to the pump. This will be three since new. It's a 2000 with 150,000 miles. First one was replaced by dealer after accident at 76,000. next one I did at 118,000. Par for the course, I guess.
